Why You Need To Know about Jaggery: Benefits of Fermented Foods and Beverages
Traditional diets around the world have always called for the culturing or fermenting of certain foods and beverages. Although modern food processing is focused on quick, convenient, packaged, and microwavable “foods,” we are in the midst of a modern-day food revolution as the consumer demand for fresher and healthier food choices grows. Simple, Nourishing Warm Milk Kefir
This is an ideal fall/winter beverage made with warmed milk, cultured kefir, Ayurvedic jaggery and a pinch of nutmeg. Kefir is a high probiotic beverage that must not be heated in order to preserve its beneficial bacteria. However, when blended with warmed milk, it becomes a delicious, nourishing, warm beverage just right for balancing VATA dosha which is naturally elevated in cool/cold, dry, fall and winter conditions.
Comfort Custard
This egg custard is simple and nourishing comfort food. It’s ideal for anyone with a sensitive stomach or compromised digestion. It can be enjoyed warm or chilled. For Ayurveda enthusiasts, when taken warm, it’s calming to Vata. When chilled or cool, it eases Pitta, and when a teaspoon of ghee along with a bit of ginger and cardamom are added, it becomes more balancing to Kapha. For a delicious twist, turn this into maple custard by using maple sugar, or into caramel-style custard by using jaggery in place of raw sugar.

Sauces were big… delicious barbecue, remoulade, tarter and shrimp-cocktail, but my dad’s all-time favorite, Worcestershire, wasn’t Cajun at all. In fact, it […]
All-Around Magical Moon-Milk
Moon Milk is a soothing, delicious milk-based hot beverage that has its roots in the healing tradition of Ayurveda. It’s useful for deep relaxation and sound rest, and is often taken at bed-time to calm stress and anxiety. In this recipe, we use a combination of spices with Ashwagandha Root Powder and Turmeric SuperGhee, both of which are used in Ayurveda to promote excellent health. Feel free to adjust the spices as desired, and, although not necessary, you can whip the moon milk with a handheld or bullet-style blender until frothy before serving.
What’s for Breakfast? Pitta Dosha
If your predominant Ayurveda dosha (body type) is Pitta, then your fiery nature is governed by metabolism, digestion and producing plenty of energy. Pitta-types such as yourself are typically medium in weight and size and may have red or blonde hair, blue or green eyes and/or freckles, beauty marks and moles. Pitta types are […]
