My experience at INCD 2019:
“I was invited to speak at the International Conference on Nutraceuticals and Chronic Diseases (INCD-2019) at IIT Guwahati, India. People in India invented ghee thousands of years ago. It has been part of their daily lives as not only a fat used in food, but also for making Ayurvedic medicines, applying on the body, and in ceremonies. However, the west-sponsored misinformation about traditional fats had its impact on the Indians also, and now, people are afraid of consuming ghee.
My talk’s title was ‘Heart-Healthy Ghee is Not an Oxymoron’ and it was very well received. I spoke about the 150 years history of demonization of traditional fats, which started in 1869 when Napoleon III in France asked scientists to create a butter substitute to tackle butter shortage, which (mis)led to the invention of margarine. I also spoke about Ayurvedic medicine ghee.”
