Spiced Pears
These pears are quick and easy to prepare, and kids love them! Ideas for serving include: * Add a dollop to yogurt or ice cream * Top with nuts and raisins or a splash of cream * Enjoy with a wedge of dark chocolate * Once cooled, chop and use as you would jams or jellies (on toast, pancakes, waffles, quick breads, muffins and scones Be sure to use firm pears - no need to peel if organic. Can be served warm, room temperature or cold.

  • 1 tsp cinnamon ground
  • 1/4 tsp ginger dried, ground
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg or mace, ground
  • Pinch cloves or allspice, ground
  • coconut palm sugar optional
  • 1 Tbsp Ghee
  • 2 large pears Bosc or other firm variety , halved
  • orange juice or apple juice, optional

Instructions
  1. Mix all spices and palm sugar, if using, together in a small bowl. Sprinkle even amounts over each pear half, rubbing into the flesh. Set aside.
  2. Melt ghee over med heat. Place spice-covered pears, cut side down into hot ghee.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low; Cover and cook 1-2 minutes or longer, depending on personal preference. You can add a small splash of apple or orange juice to the pan to soften the pears a little quicker.
  4. Serve warm with yogurt or ice cream and garnish of choice. (See recipe description above for ideas)
