What Is Turmeric and How Do I Incorporate It Into My Regular Diet?

October 27, 2015 by Sandeep Agarwal Leave a Comment

Turmeric Curcumin is a plant in the ginger family and is also known as “Indian saffron.” Its use dates back nearly 4000 years to the Vedic culture in India. There, it was a staple in culinary spice, served medicinal needs and was a component in religious ceremonies.

The lovely color, aroma and rich flavor isn’t all it has going for it. The importance of Turmeric has been indicated by 3000+ publications over the last 25 years. The active ingredient, curcumin, is said to be an effective remedy for a variety of conditions.

It has a slightly bitter taste, but when it is used correctly, it can add a flavorful dimension to your dishes. It is important to know how to eat turmeric properly for maximum benefit and enjoyment. While eating black pepper with Turmeric will boost its effectiveness, you may still be left wondering how to incorporate it without a major diet overhaul. We’ve put together some of our favorite tips and tricks as well as many go-to favorite Turmeric products to help you make the most out of this extraordinary plant.

First of all, Turmeric Ghee makes for a wonderfully simple way to enjoy this spice. Ghee is a clarified butter from grass-fed, pastured cows and is an abundant source of many vitamins, minerals and healthy fats. If you don’t have any on hand, you can swap it out for coconut or sesame oil and add ground turmeric separately.

Turmeric Veggies – To give vegetables an extra dose of flavor, you can simply stir fry them in a bit of organic Turmeric Ghee. Mix it a bit in the pan, then add your vegetables. Don’t forget the black pepper! Also add a bit of ginger, garlic, coriander, cumin – use what you have on hand. This will give you a delightful dose of veggies and a good helping of Turmeric. How much you add is according to taste. Your family will love the delicious aromas coming from your kitchen. Do not be surprised if they go for multiple helpings.

Turmeric Eggs for Breakfast – Turmeric and eggs go wonderfully well together. For delicious scrambled eggs, beat four eggs together with two tablespoons of coconut milk. Add sea salt, and (of course!) black pepper. Scramble in Turmeric Ghee and enjoy. For poached eggs, you can sprinkle a mixture of Turmeric powder and dried cilantro on top for a truly wonderful flavor.

Turmeric Tea – Enjoy delicious Turmeric tea by mixing a teaspoon of Turmeric powder and organic honey into a cup of boiling water. For a delightful experience, add a little coconut milk, lemon, ginger, cardamom or cinnamon into your tea.

Turmeric Beverage Ideas – Blend a little Turmeric , cinnamon and ghee in your morning coffee to jumpstart your day. Mix Turmeric into your smoothies for a super pick-me-up.

Make sure that you purchase organic Turmeric powder from a trusted company. It should be the highest quality, 100% pure and certified by the USDA as organic. It should not have any fillers or preservatives.
